Samsung LNT3253H 32 LCD

Samsung’s 32-inch flat panel LCD set features an artistic, modern design with rounded corners and a piano-black bezel. The LN-T3253H sits on an oval stand that allows the TV to swivel up to about 20 degrees so you can always get a great view of this set. The “hidden” bottom speakers remain nearly invisible from the front but provide SRS TruSurround XT to simulate the multi-channel audio experience. This is a good set for those looking for a TV that will not overpower a living space. 

The Samsung LN-T3253H features a native resolution of 1,366×768 and scales all sources to fit the pixels. The set is compatible with 480p, 720p and 1080i content, while also supporting downscaled 1080p HD content. The set produces a very good picture, and offers many controls to tweak the color and other video settings. The colors are very accurate and lifelike while the blacks are reasonable, especially in dark scenes.  

The LN-T3253H offers a slew of picture adjustments for a 32-inch LCD. You get three picture modes that are each independent for each input, allowing you to customize each source with three different groups of picture settings. Only Movie mode allows full adjustment, however, so we recommend using it for your most demanding viewing conditions. In addition to the standard sliders for brightness, contrast, and so on, there’s a full-fledged backlight control, which is also independent per input. Backlight intensity controls the overall light output of the TV, and while such a control is common with other LCD makers, it’s new for Samsung this year.

High-quality virtual surround sound can be experienced with just the speakers built into the TV. SRS TruSurround XT technology delivers an amazing, simulated 3D effect with clear dialog and powerful bass through hidden side speakers. TruSurround XT audio adds three audio enhancement technologies to produce an amazingly immersive sound experience.

The Samsung Digital Natural Image engine (DNIe) Video Enhancer refines all analog NTSC and wideband video inputs for an overall improvement in picture quality. DNIe improves contrast, white level, picture detail and incorporates digital noise reduction to improve lower quality video inputs. The 3D Y/C digital comb filter constantly analyzes the three dimensions of picture height, picture width, and picture changes-over-time to dramatically reduce edge image artifacts while improving transition detail.

• Dialog Clarity brings movie dialog into Focus during the playback of any surround-encoded material to make speech much clearer and crisper.

• TruBass creates incredible deep rich bass allowing a person to perceive significantly deeper, richer low bass tones that are far beyond the physical low frequency capabilities of the speaker itself.

• The SRS WOW feature widens the soundstage by processing standard two-channel stereo material as well as multi-channel encoded material for a dramatic improvement in the playback of any stereo audio over a two-speaker system.

Overall the Samsung LN-T3253H produced a very good picture for a 32-inch LCD television. The many picture controls allowed us to hone the picture to our liking and improve it quite a bit, although the default Movie mode wasn’t bad at all. The Samsung LN-T3253H has a very good, bright picture. It offers a stylish design for living spaces, but is a bit expensive for a set its size. However, it doesn’t come up short on features or connections. If you’re looking for form as well as function, and need a smaller-sized display, this is a good option. Just be prepared to spend a bit more for it.

Pros:The Samsung LN-T3253H HDTV produces relatively deep blacks with fine shadow detail; accurate color; slick styling; scads of picture controls; superb connectivity with one PC and three HDMI inputs.

Cons:Expensive compared to bargain models; grayscale tends toward blue in darker areas;  Pricy for 32-inch set, 720p rather than 1080p 

The bottom line: Great style, oodles of features, and a solid picture combine to make the Samsung LN-T3253H one of the best LCD TVs available at its size.
