Great picture out of the box using the standard setting with warm white. Using tools I learned about on AVsforum a few years back I was able to calibrate this set to nearly perfect specs. The Advanced user menus made the job very easy and the technology that this set has built into it made it possible to get the calibration almost exactly where the industry specs say it should be. The picture is now stunning, whereas out of the box it was just very good. Go here for more information. Bad bulb/ballast, August 10, 2010

Have had the TV for ~2 weeks now and haven’t been able to watch for more than about an hour tops, and getting shorter. Apparently there is something wrong with the bulb/ballast. The picture just drops out and the green indicator turns solid red. The book says change the bulb. After the run around with Mitsu it took 5 days to get a new bulb and that didn’t work. Now I have to wait another ~4-5 days minimum to have a tech come out to look at the set. This was a common problem a couple years ago, would have thought they’d have fixed it by now. Unless I’m just lucky and got the one bad apple.

Spent yesterday setting up our new Mitsubishi 82″ WD-82738. First off, the TV was packed very nicely, no damage and one heck of a big box. Having owned DLP TV’s in the past I can truthfully say this is by far the nicest one we have ever owned. The picture is bright and clear and considering how the prices for such a big TV have become so affordable I would rate this TV as a bargain. Things that I had problems with were minor but I am going to mention them. For the first hour after plugging in the TV I didn’t have sound. I had a great picture but no matter what I did with the sound settings on the TV it didn’t produce sound. Since my only input was my satellite receiver I wasn’t sure if it was the receiver or the TV… so I connected it to the Internet. Again, no sound. At this point I was ready to call Mitsubishi when I read a little paragraph on the rear cover page of the install manual…. SYSTEM RESET. Held the power button in for 10 seconds and when the TV restarted… it had SOUND! I think it might be nice if they would have made this a little more obvious… wasted a lot of time diagnosing before I realized that this was something that needed to be done. Only other negative… it says in the Specification Sheet that it has an OPTICAL Digital Audio Output… it’s not Optical… or if it is it sure doesn’t look like my other optical connections or cables that I already own. But it’s getting connected to a surround sound system so I guess this feature isn’t that important… but they should change this in the advertising. |
