Toshiba’s 19LV505 (black) is 19 inch LCD HDTV/DVD combo units which can act as a compact, space saving entertainment center. DVDs are side slot loaded and the stereo speakers are bottom mounted. Toshiba have included ATSC/NTSC/QAM digital tuning for tuning of standard cable channels as well as off-air digital broadcasts, in addition to digital “cable-in-the clear” broadcasts.

Design and performance, form and function. The 19LV505 combines an LCD HDTV with a built-in DVD player to create an all-in-one entertainment solution that will fit your needs when space is at a premium.

As these combo LCDs could likely be used as a monitor Toshiba have given them a high WSXGA+ (Wide Super Extended Graphics Array) or 1680 x 1050 pixel resolution. The contrast ration is 800:1 which short of the exceptionally high numbers some LCDs have been getting lately. Gamers will appreciate the sharper images the fast 5ms response time will deliver. The viewing angle range for the display is not a market beater but, an adequate 160/160 H/V. For convenience, given the locations it may be situated, there is a digital clock included.

Included in multimedia capabilities for these LCDs is a JPEG viewer for displaying your digital images. There is considerable digital video and audio playback versatility with the Toshiba 19LV505 and 19LV506 able to play back all versions of DivX video (including DivX6), WMA and MP3. Playable disc types include; DVD, DVD-R, DVD-RW, CD, CD-R, CD-RW and VCD.

You can connect up a computer to the PC input if you would like to use it as a monitor. You will need a decent graphics card to support the native WSXGA+ resolution. For gaming or watching HD broadcasts, the A/V input, HDMI or component input can be used.

Its 19″ diagonal widescreen is of the TFT LCD variety giving it a versatile edge. It comes with framing dimensions of 16.81″ x 14.33″ and a contrast ratio of 800:1, plus a resolution of 1440×900. For a 19 inch TV (with built-in DVD slot), this product is light at only 12.32 lbs. This unit is perfect for viewing standard, high definition and analog television signals and DVD movies. The built-in ATSC/NTSC/QAM digital tuner gives one the option of switching between cable channels and off-air digital broadcasts. “Cable-in-the-clear” broadcasts are also on the menu. All you need to do is switch at will.

Pros: The picture is sharp and clear, and it’s very convenient to have the DVD player included with only one remote to keep track of. The 19″ size is a perfect fit.
