Toshiba reserves the “Cinema Series” title for their best TVs, and the 42XV545U is certainly worthy. It sports many of today’s advanced technologies like 1080p resolution, 120Hz anti-blur processing, and dynamic backlighting, as well as a few pleasant surprises. And the Double Skin cabinet places a translucent outer skin over a textured inner skin to give this HDTV a unique, lavish look.

The 42XV545U from Toshiba is a full HD 1080p LCD TV with impressive features for gamers and movie lovers alike. This 42″ screen utilizes groundbreaking Toshiba technology for stunning visuals and multiple input options for connecting all of your HD components. Toshiba’s ClearFrame 120Hz Anti-Blur Technology practically eliminates motion blur without diminishing brightness by speeding up frame rate from 60fps to 120fps utilizing Motion Vector Frame Interpolation. SRT will upconvert your SD content to near HD quality for more precise picture detail.

While the product number may be confusing, the Regza Cinema Series HD LCD has a 42-inch, 16:9 display, with a native resolution of 1080p and a 120Hz refresh rate. I’ll get into the 120Hz argument in a moment, but first let’s take a gander at the TV itself. The Regza is an attractive yet minimal display. It doesn’t hawk a lot of silvery plastic or flashy finishes at you, but opts instead for a simple gloss-black bevel with a subtle dark gray accent below the Toshiba badge.

The Regza comes standard with a sleek pedestal stand, though wall-mounting is an option with a third-party wall mount. The display itself measures roughly 40 inches wide by 25-and-a-half inches tall and nearly four inches deep. The Regza, with stand, weighs a modest 54 pounds.

The manual controls are located along the right side (looking at the display) of the display itself and feature hard buttons for power, menu, channel and volume, as well as a single HDMI and composite audio/video inputs, which are pretty much standard. Around back, you get three more HDMI inputs, two sets of component video inputs and a full complement of composite and S-Video connections, all with coordinating analog audio inputs. Pros: With built-in HDTV compatibility, this television can display images that are significantly sharper and more realistic than regular television, as long as the source is high definition.(It can easily render standard-resolution digital TV broadcasts and also depict the full resolution of widescreen DVD video.)The 3:2 pulldown feature of this set reduces artifacts that can occur when motion pictures are transferred to a digital format such as DVD.

Cons: Has only a rear connector location.

Suitability: An LCD TV, suited for home entertainment.In general, a wide aspect display such as this one is well suited for DVD movies recorded in the popular 16:9 format, as well as high definition programming.
